Garlic Cheese Scones

Ingredients

Scones

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • tsp baking powder
  • ½ tbsp white sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp cream of tartar
  • ¼ cup cold butter chopped into small cubes
  • cup grated cheddar cheese
  • tsp minced garlic
  • ½ tsp garlic flakes
  • ½ cup + 2 tbsp milk

Garlic butter glaze

  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley

Instructions

Scones

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C and line a baking sheet with wax paper or silicone mat

  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cream of tartar. Add butter and combine to form coarse crumbs. You can do this by hand or by using an electric mixer

  3. Stir in cheese and garlic. Add milk and stir until just combined

  4. Using a heaped tablespoon, drop dough onto the baking sheet. Leave 4cm space between each scone. Bake for 15 minutes, until the scones are golden brown and crispy

  5. In a small bowl, stir together butter, garlic and parsley. Brush the tops of the biscuits with the butter glaze, and serve warm

  1. In a small bowl, stir together butter, garlic and parsley. Brush the tops of the biscuits with the butter glaze, and serve warm. If not enjoying immediately, warm in the oven for 10 minutes before serving
