I am convinced that peanut butter and chocolate were made for one another. Sometime, somewhere, the Food Cupid shot his arrow at the peanut plant and cocoa bean, and since then their courtship has been one that only a romance novelist could adequately put down in words. The salty and the sweet. The nutty and the nectarous. Both deliciously rich, smooth and decadent.
If peanut butter and chocolate were made for each other, then this peanut butter chocolate protein smoothie is their love-child. Peanut butter, cocoa powder, Weetbix and oats come together to make a thick and creamy smoothie that packs a flavourful, protein-filled punch. It’s incredibly rich and filling, more of a pudding than anything else, really – but you won’t see me complaining!
One of my favourite things about this delicious smoothie is the two layers – peanut butter at the bottom, chocolate at the top. Not only does it make you look like you’ve got mad presentation skills, but it also highlights the two different flavours really well. And best of all, it takes only a few minutes to whip up. Simply chuck everything into the blender and let the appliance work it’s magic! Garnish with some mixed nuts or even a dripping of melted nut butter, and this peanut butter chocolate protein smoothie will be the prettiest, protein-iest thing you eat all day.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Smoothie
Prep Time 5 minutes
Servings 2 people
- 1 frozen, sliced banana
- ½ cup ice
- 1 cup milk
- ½ tsp vanilla essence
- 2 tbsp smooth peanut butter
- ¼ cup rolled oats
- 2 Weetbix biscuits
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
Add banana, ice, milk, vanilla essence, peanut butter, oats and crushed Weetbix biscuits to a blender. Pulse until the mixture is smooth and well-mixed, then pour ⅔ of the mixture into two glasses
Add the cocoa powder to the remaining mixture, and blend until combined. Pour the chocolate mixture over the peanut butter mixture, and enjoy
- For a sticky sweet garnish, melt two tablespoons of peanut butter in the microwave until soft and runny. Pour it over the smoothies and enjoy!
