These overnight chai spiced oats use chai-flavoured tea to get their warm, spiced aromatic taste
Back in June, I attended the annual EC Meet Up Event in Port Elizabeth and was the lucky winner of 9 boxes (or 918 teabags!) of tea. I arrived home to discover my goodie bag contained yet more boxes of tea, and a few weeks later, Five Roses graced me with a wonderful hamper of … you guessed it … more tea! As a regular tea drinker and the girlfriend of a conventional Englishman, it was like winning the jackpot. We had ourselves an endless supply of tea, and I had inspiration for some new recipes!
These overnight chai spiced oats use chai-flavoured tea to get their warm, spicy flavour, as well as a dash of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. All you have to do is soak the teabags in warm water, then add the chai water to a bowl of oats along with your spices, a dollop of honey and a splash of milk. Leave the oats in the fridge to soak overnight, and enjoy a fully-prepared breakfast the next morning!
I’m crazy about overnight oats because they’re a quick and easy make-ahead breakfast, and these particular chai spiced oats have an incredible flavour. They’re warm, toasty, aromatic, and lick-the-bowl-scrumptious. You can enjoy them the following morning as is, or warm them up over the stove with a splash of milk.
About the tea: I used Five Roses Chai Tea to give my overnight chai spiced oats their aromatic, spiced flavour.
