This past Saturday, I attended my first EC Meet Up – an annual event held in Port Elizabeth for local bloggers and influencers. The event took place at Fairview Racecourse, and if being in the company of some of the province’s best bloggers isn’t enough for you, then the prizes, goodie bags and food sure will be!
I could go on and on about the guest speakers, Megan Kelly and Lyle Scritten, who gave us invaluable advice on the best blogging practices. (Lyle works for one of the most renowned online travel agencies in the country – Travelstart – so check out their website if you’re looking for cheap flights to Port Elizabeth, or anywhere else in SA, really!) I could ramble for days about the beautiful venue and its views over the racecourse. And I could talk myself hoarse (heh heh) about all of the super cool freebies, goodie bags and prizes that our wonderful hosts – Luchae and Eleanor – organised for us. I could also boast about the fact that I got to meet thee Anje Rautenbach! She’s one of the country’s best travel bloggers, and I’m not ashamed to say I fangirled pretty hard when I got to sit down and chat with her.
But what I really want to talk about … is the food.
Because this is a food blog, after all, and I’m sure you’ve all got nothing better to do than to hear how I gorged myself this past weekend.
The catering was done by Petronella Fine Dining in high tea style, with one long table groaning under the weight of cakes and finger snacks taking centre stage. This was where I spent most of my time. Not wanting to look like a homeless person who has never seen such a selection of decadent food before, I allowed myself to have only three helpings. Had this been a friend’s birthday party and not an illustrious event, you can rest assured I wouldn’t have stopped until there was nothing but crumbs left.
From cakes and chocolates to pastry parcels and pies, the high tea was reason enough to attend the EC Meet Up event. I put together a small selection of some of my favourite snacks, just in case you weren’t already salivating enough.
Mushroom pâté bready bites – Mushroom pâté sandwiched in a light and airy bread ball
Phyllo pastry parcels with tuna filling – Creamy tuna wrapped in crunchy phyllo pastry
Chocolate cake truffles – Smooth, rich balls of densely packed chocolate cake
Mini scones with jam and cream – Soft, fluffy scones topped with whipped cream and apricot jam
Iced cake squares – Vanilla cake squares covered in a sugary glaze
And let’s not forget the candy table for dessert – courtesy of Cute and Chic – where I stuffed my already full belly with doughnuts, candy floss and millionaire shortbread.
Thanks once again to Luchae and Eleanor for organizing such a fantastic event. I look forward to the next EC Meet Up – but I don’t know how you’re going to be able to beat this year’s food table!
