Hello, hi and welcome!
I’m Cassidy – a twenty-something-year-old novice food blogger from South Africa, and a bonafide bookworm, wine-lover and wanderluster.
I’m a self-confessed novice in the kitchen, having only discovered my love for cooking about a year ago when my boyfriend and I moved in together and I could no longer rely on my mom to keep me fed. So I started experimenting in the kitchen and came to the realisation that I actually enjoy cooking! What a relief that must have been for my Significant Other.
I’ll be honest and say that I’m not a fantastic cook: I’m incapable of following a recipe to the tee. My measurements are rather unique and change from time to time. If I don’t have the appropriate ingredients, then I simply take a leap of faith and add my own.
You could say I’m a basic cook. I like simple, straightforward recipes that are quick to make and forgive you when you tweak the instructions and do your own thing. I can’t be bothered with complicated ingredients, either. If I can’t find it in my pantry or at least at the grocery store down the road, then the recipe is too fussy for me.
I’m also the Queen of Cooking Fails, but I wear that crown proudly. From curdled pasta dishes and sour mashed potato, to cake flops, melted biscuits and broken muffins, I am definitely no novice when it comes to cooking fails! (I suppose this is what I get for not following recipes properly…) But I don’t think of these cooking flops as ‘fails’; in the last year, I’ve learned more from my melted, flattened shortbread biscuits than I did from my perfectly baked chocolate muffins.
So, if you’re a novice culinarian like me, who cooks to the beat of her own whisk, then you’ve come to the right place! Try out my easy-to-make, add-your-own-flare recipes, from sweet treats and tasty drinks to finger foods and wholesome meals.
A few things you should know:
- I will never use the word ‘moist’ when describing a dish. This is my promise to you.
- You’ll see me mention my boyfriend quite often. This is because he’s the main tester for my dishes, so his opinions decide whether or nor a recipe makes the cut. His name is Tom and he’s lovely.
- All of the recipes are my own, unless stated otherwise, in which case I always add my own touches and will link back to the original post.
- Feel free to use my images and recipes on your own blog, but please be nice and use your own wording, credit my images and link back to my site.
